Process Variables Optimization for Heat Pump Drying of Roselle Calyx by Using Response Surface Methodology

Heat pump drying technology has been recognized for its capability to conserve energy consumption and product quality in process. Understanding the influence of conditions on optimisation are necessary cut down cost. In this study, Roselle calyx using heat dryer was optimized response surface method where Central Composite Design (CCD) employed investigate effects independent variables: temperature (40-60ᵒC) sample mass (100-300 g), variables (drying time, colour changes). The study aimed achieve minimum total changes. It discovered that factor dominant effect time while interplay between closely related transfer moisture evaporation rates sample. optimum as determined were at 60ᵒC 100 g. Under these conditions, consumption, difference 332.3 min, 27.05 kWh, 4.29 ∆E, respectively. optimization model well validated since predicted experimental results below 3%.
